A 13-foot bay window changed a dark living room into the sunniest room in the house. Even the small depth of the bay addition was enough to open up the room and take away its "bowling alley" feel. A narrow family room off the living room was problematic because of its narrow width, off center fireplace and numerous doorways. The space was better suited as a traffic area. The solution was a 10-foot bump out addition with a new centered fireplace. The seating area is now centered and traffic-free. A powder room between the family room and breakfast room was relocated to allow an easy flow between the kitchen, breakfast room and family room spaces.
